JoLynne McCraw

JoLynne McCraw, Interim Head of School

Welcome to the Legacy Family!

I am so excited to return to Legacy and serve as Interim Head of School.  I count it a blessing, an honor, and a privilege to be here.  I would like to share some of my Legacy history with you.  In April 2014, I joined the Legacy family to serve as Elementary Principal for six years and then as Head of School for two years.  I know that in the past and now in the present, the high standards of excellence stated in the vision and mission statements are reflected in the rigorous curriculum and programs at Legacy.  The programs, including Bible, academics, sports, the Arts, and horticulture, continue to grow and expand to offer students more educational opportunities. I am thankful for Legacy Christian Academy.  It is a Christian ‘Light’ in our community!

May God continue to give Legacy His blessing.

Kelly Herr

Kelly Herr, Elementary Principal

Blessings to you, Legacy Family,

It is my honor and privilege to serve you as Elementary Principal this year. My name is Kelly Herr and I have been in Education for twenty-one years. I received my Bachelor of Science and teaching certificate in Kinesiology from Lamar University. I have been married to Jefferey Herr for 29 years, and we have 3 beautiful children, Lain (28), Maddie (24), and John (22).

Long before I taught at Legacy and my children attended school here, I loved this school. My dad, John Lord, was part of the vision that built Cathedral Christian School back in 1978, and I was one of the first students to attend. My heart has belonged to Legacy for decades.

My teaching career began in 2000 when I taught Bible, Health, and P. E. and also coached for Cathedral Christian High School. In 2002 I moved to the elementary school to teach P. E. and be on campus where my own children attended school. There I became chapel leader for six years. I knew then that God was calling me to leadership, but it was not His timing.

My career took several turns over the next years. I taught at Vista Charter school, was Director at Chick-fil-a and Children’s Pastor at Noel Methodist Church in Shreveport, and I taught and coached at West Hardin and the Ehrhart School. During this time away, my heart stayed centered at Legacy. My own children attended Cathedral and Legacy where they grew spiritually, academically, and athletically. Lain and Maddie both graduated from Legacy. In 2019, following God’s voice, I registered to earn my Master’s of Education/Administration from Lamar University with the desire to return to Legacy as

Principal. In 2020 I graduated during Covid, and I prayed.

I believe with my whole heart that God has prepared me to help lead Legacy to the destiny God has prepared for us. I wholeheartedly believe in Christian Education and am humbled by this opportunity. I will seek Him and the wisdom of those around me to direct each student’s growth toward the unique potential God has for them. I am so excited to see what God has in store for us. “With God, all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

The Lord is with you Mighty Warrior!

Debbie Jean

Debbie Jean, Secondary Principal

When I first came to Legacy Christian Academy in 2006, I knew right away that it was a very special place. Over my years here, I’ve been able to incorporate Biblical principles in all of my lesson plans, pray with my classes and my students, attend Chapel on a weekly basis, and lead a girls’ small group. From then until now, I have not taken any of these opportunities for granted.

I consider it a great honor to have taught with my valued colleagues who pour their hearts into teaching everyday in their classrooms. Even while that is one of our highest goals, we are so much more than that. We are a family who supports one another above and beyond all expectations. Now as principal, I can tell you that while students at Legacy are getting the very best education in southeast Texas with a Biblical emphasis, they are also welcomed into this family atmosphere that makes Legacy so unique and exceptional. If you are contemplating your next steps for education, know that we will partner with you to cultivate the best educational opportunities for your family.

The conviction I felt about Legacy being special so many years ago has only grown since then. I know this atmosphere is rare, and I am so blessed to be a part of it!
